Feile First Fermanaghs 2011 finished off last night in incredible style, The High Kings bringing down the curtain on what was undeniably an amazing weekend for all who attended!
Friday kicked off in style with the impressive Tully accompanied by a guest guitarist and drummer. Tully were getting the sell-out crowd into the party mood by the time May McFettridge jumped on stage; May didn’t take long to begin dishing out the insults to anyone who risked a journey to the toilet or the bar. She lived up to all expectations filling the marquee with laughter for the duration of her show. Tully then returned and filled the dance floor for the remainder of the night, good things ahead for these talented local girls.
The Family Sports & Fun Day on Saturday played host to a large crowd, the soaring temperatures allowed those present to sit back and bask in summer sunshine as the kids enjoyed all the activities which included a climbing wall, inflatable obstacle course and kid’s race amongst others.
The Big Generator well and truly lifted the roof of the marquee on Saturday; the attendance of over 700 was testament to their ever increasing fan base in the area. The lads dished out hit after hit to a packed dance floor leaving everyone wanting more when they called time on the gig.
The Monster Bingo on Sunday, as was the trend for the weekend, drew yet another large crowd. A few lucky people have had an excellent start to their summer.
The High Kings were welcomed on stage by a capacity audience in the marquee, they did not disappoint, including everyone in each song whether it was clapping along or joining them in song. The marquee was silenced twice for 2 A Cappella sets from the foursome; Red is the Rose and The Auld Triangle, each received with a rapturous applause. Further Highlights were provided from Brain Dunphy who dedicated The Rare Auld Times to his father, the late great Sean Dunphy. He asked the audience to join in the chorus in his father memory. They continued to raise the roof with upbeat renditions of old favourites and received a standing ovation on their exit.
Thanks to all who attended from near and far, including all our neighbouring clubs who all showed a tremendous support for our festival.
The festival has been a huge boost for the club and it would not have been possible without the serious effort put in by all involved, from the early planning stages, to the lead up to the festival weekend and throughout the weekend. It showed the incredible spirit that exists within the club. So everyone deserves a huge thank you for their part in the weekend.
Next year Feile First Fermanaghs 2012 will also be in our 125th year, it has a lot to live up to!
